Legal
Terms & Conditions
In short: Examli is an independent IELTS practice app, not the official test. A full mock costs one credit, used only when the exam starts and returned if marking fails on our side. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, see section 12.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service and Conditions (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Examli (“Examli”, “we”, “us”). They apply to this website, the waitlist and the Examli mobile app (together, the “Service”). By joining the waitlist, creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
2. What Examli is
Examli is a practice app for the IELTS Academic test. It offers timed mock exams covering Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, a live AI speaking examiner, estimated band scores and feedback.
Examli is not the official IELTS test. IELTS is a registered trademark of the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. We are not affiliated with, endorsed or approved by them. Scores in Examli are practice estimates only. They cannot be used as proof of English ability, and we don't promise that you'll achieve any particular result in the real test.
3. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
- Give accurate information and keep your sign-in details secure. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- One person per account. Tell us straight away at support@examli.app if you think someone else has used your account.
4. The waitlist and pre-release access
Joining the waitlist is free. You'll be asked to confirm your email, and you can leave at any time using the link in any of our emails. Joining doesn't create an account or guarantee access by a certain date. We may invite people in stages. Early or test versions of the app may contain bugs or incomplete features and may change or stop without notice.
5. Credits, payments and refunds
- A full mock exam costs one mock credit. Credits are bought as in-app purchases through Google Play or the Apple App Store, and the price is shown in your local currency before you pay.
- A credit is used only when you start a full mock. Buying a credit doesn't use it.
- If a full mock can't be marked because of a failure on our side, the credit is returned to your balance automatically.
- Credits aren't returned if you leave or abandon an exam after it has started, because the strict exam clock keeps running like the real test.
- Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred and are for use only within Examli.
- Refunds for purchases are handled by the app store you bought through, under its refund policies. Contact us if something has gone wrong and we'll help.
- We may change prices in future; changes won't affect credits you have already bought.
Your statutory rights: nothing in these Terms affects rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live. If you are in the UK or EU, by starting a mock exam you ask us to supply digital content immediately and acknowledge that your right to cancel ends once supply begins.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, record, resell or publish exam questions, audio or other Examli content;
- use the Service to cheat in, or help others cheat in, any real examination;
- reverse-engineer, scrape, overload or interfere with the Service or its security;
- try to manipulate credits, purchases, refunds or scores;
- submit content that is unlawful, abusive or infringes someone else's rights;
- use the speaking examiner to generate harmful content or to impersonate another person.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
7. AI features
The speaking examiner and marking are powered by AI. AI can make mistakes: it may mishear speech, misunderstand an answer or produce an inaccurate estimate. Use results as guidance alongside your own judgement. Speaking needs microphone permission and an internet connection; recordings are handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Your content and our content
Yours: you keep ownership of the answers, essays and recordings you submit. You give us a limited licence to store, process and analyse them so we can provide the Service, mark your work, keep it secure and improve our marking.
Ours: the app, its design, the Examli name and owl mascot, questions, audio, feedback and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for your own exam preparation.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep Examli available but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, change or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what you've paid for, we will tell you and, where appropriate, return unused credits.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Examli at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@examli.app. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop providing the Service. If we close the Service for reasons other than your breach, we'll give reasonable notice and help with unused credits.
11. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and that scores will match official IELTS results.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost opportunities such as exam outcomes, visa, university or job decisions. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or £50 (or the equivalent in your currency).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service (including non-contractual disputes), are governed by the laws of England and Wales in the United Kingdom.
Subject to the next paragraph, you and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction to settle any such dispute.
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring proceedings there, and if you live outside the UK, you can bring proceedings in your local courts where your local law allows.
Before starting a formal claim, please email support@examli.app. Most problems can be solved quickly and informally, and we aim to reply within 14 days.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time and will change the date at the top when we do. For significant changes we'll give you notice by email or in the app. If you keep using Examli after changes take effect, the updated Terms apply.
14. General
- If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't given it up.
- You may not transfer these Terms to someone else. We may transfer them as part of a sale or reorganisation of our business, without reducing your rights.
- App store terms also apply to purchases and downloads made through Google Play or the App Store.
- These Terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
